When Michael Phelps exited the pool, during the 2016 summer Olympics, displaying a geometric pattern of circles covering his back, most of us would have never imagined that this odd looking skin ritual would ever become so popular. However only two years have passed, and cupping is one of the most popular holistic wellness procedures thought to cure many ailments. In fact, due to the celebrities who have sported these “cupping circles” on the Red Carpet, it has become a trend.
Is she pretty? "Beauty is only skin deep", but she has a great personality. Yeah? Really? Sure this saying is meant to be taken as "not judging a person by their looks", but rather who they are inside. But, even though I do agree with this meaning of it, I think there are people who have Beauty that is ONLY skin deep and other's who have beauty beyond their epidermis (skin).
I'm am going to use an anonymous example. There was an instagram page that I followed in the past. A fit female who was a fellow Texan and weight lifter and she had a massive following! I had much respect for this person's ideals. She would discuss how she didn't have to pose "booty in a thong" pics to feel good about herself. She always spoke of the importance of inner beauty and loving yourself for what God has made you. Which I agree with wholeheartedly. She was tasteful and I respected her modesty, as most fitness instagramers often post less modest pictures because they are showing off their progress or motivating others, and of course it gets them more followers. I get that!!! I really do.
When her following hit a plateau, she began to change her page to more risque photos, which gained her more likes...not just the normal fitness booty poses ...and not just the bikini thong pics at the beach that many instafit individuals post. Pictures of her in daisy duke jean shorts as she bent over her couch, pics of her in her panties spread eagle on furniture. All the while still posting about inner beauty and loving yourself for who you are on the inside. This sent mixed messages. Don't get me wrong I still respect the persons perseverance and dedication to her Brand. But She changed who she was.
When we aren't getting attention we feel we need, why do we change what we act like and how other's see us? Beauty is not just what we see when we look at a picture of someone. The dictionary defines beauty as
"-a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight."
So, sure we do see and recognize outer beauty. Have you ever dated someone that was so gorgeous that you were so proud to date them, but their inner self sucked?! Maybe they were rude, unintelligent, lazy, self-centered, or whatever it may have been. But you lost interest because of that lack of inner beauty and to be honest with yourself, they are no longer physically beautiful to you anymore. While others, we get to know and find them so amazing on the inside that we gain a physical attraction to them. Am I right? So truely, what is beauty? Is it really just something we see?
The true beauty of a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the mother who takes care of her family and puts their needs high on her priority list. It is the woman working hard everyday to help support her hobbies because she lives for what makes her smile. Beauty is when you hear your child say a prayer. When you watch your mother laugh at the movies while you enjoy a girls day. Beauty is your sister always insisting on buying your coffee because of her giving heart. What makes you BEAUTIFUL? It's there. Don't hide it. It is beyond the skin and not everyone sees it...but they could. Don't let instagram or a magazine tell you what is beautiful, because you already are.
